Eleven TMPD officers arrested for allegedly assaulting three men

The Tshwane Metro Police department released a statement on Friday, 15 October 2021, confirming the arrest of eleven of its members following an investigation into the alleged assault of three individuals by TMPD members in an altercation involving an impounded vehicle on the 2nd of October 2021.

The TMPD revealed that they launched an investigation into the matter after they were informed of the allegations in which the alleged victims were reportedly trying to forcefully remove their vehicle after it was impounded by TMPD officers which led to the subsequent alleged assault. “When TMPD was informed of these allegations, the TMPD internal affairs unit that deals with conduct of members was immediately instructed to investigate this matter further and to determine a possibility of an internal disciplinary process,” the Department said in their statement.

“The matter was given full attention and the TMPD fully cooperated with the independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID). Further investigations led to the arrest of eleven TMPD members who are allegedly involved in the assault of three males,” the Department further stated.

The TMPD went further to condemn such actions from its members and also indicated that internal disciplinary processes will continue amid the arrests.
