Barcelona is set to play a friendly match with Boca to honour Maradona


Barcelona will play a friendly with Boca juniors to commemorate the late Barcelona legend Diego Maradona. According to the club, the match between these two clubs will be called the “Maradona Cup” since this November marks a year after the death of the great star Diego Armando Maradona.

The Argentine legend played for both sides during his phenomenal career, he had two spells at Boca, where he ended his career in 1997, and took a two years spell at Barcelona, winning the Metropolitano title with Boca and the Copa del Rey, Copa de La Liga and supercopa de Espana with the Catalan giants. After leaving Barcelona, he went on to play for Napoli which he won two titles with them before leading Argentina to the 1986 World Cup glory.

Boca confirmed that they will partake in this game, which will take placed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the 14 November 2021. Maradona died from heart attack on the 25 November 2020 after fighting health issues and undergoing a surgery for a subdural haematoma. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
